I’ve had the pleasure of documenting Little Amal as she travels the world highlighting the experiences of refugees and under privileged communities.

A little girl on a BIG journey. Little Amal is the 12 foot puppet of a 10 year old Syrian refugee child at the heart of The Walk, travelled to Ukraine during the war to show solidarity to the refugees impacted by the war.

Arthur Miller’s visceral and compelling drama is a timeless masterpiece. On the Brooklyn waterfront, where the fierce passions of ancestral Sicily linger, the orphaned Catherine falls for her handsome, newly arrived cousin Rodolfo – an illegal immigrant. Their romance is encouraged by her aunt Beatrice but viewed with revulsion by her uncle, Eddie Carbone, who harbours an unspoken desire. As tensions rise, their story spins inexorably beyond control.

The Imagine Fund is a participatory grant-making scheme supporting local people and Unincorporated Associations in the City of London to create projects that will bring people together, kickstart a new idea or have a go at something they’ve always wanted to try. Since 2021, the programme has funded 42 projects and initiatives, with funding allocated by panels of local community members who worked together to design the process and make decisions around the projects that would most benefit their local community.

Over nine days in summer 2023, members from Haggerston-based charity supporting people affected by brain injury, Headway East London, took over the Barbican’s iconic Curve gallery to stage differently various, a multifaceted exhibition and a rich public programme that together created an immersive installation and a space to learn, create, and discuss. The space provided an opportunity to explore the invaluable work of the charity, learn about brain injury, and take in an astonishing collection of neurodiverse art.

A little girl on a BIG journey. Little Amal is the 12 foot puppet of a 10 year old Syrian refugee child at the heart of The Walk. She has become a global symbol of human rights, especially those of refugees. Since July 2021, Amal has travelled over 9,000km to 97 towns and cities in 15 countries and been welcomed by more than a million people on the street. Her journeys are festivals of art and hope that draw attention to the huge numbers of children fleeing war, violence and persecution, each with their own story.
